Forget about Twitter for a while. It’s overhyped.
Sure, growth is truly impressive. And I for one hope for another step in the democratization process the internet furthers via another means of voicing your opinion – may your individual voice be considered “worthy” by “established” pundits or not; it’s clearly a step in the right direction.
But right now it’s another case of some shiny new internet thing (great though it may be) hitting the mainstream, which often leads to mainstream media going crazy about it, as they now have “proof” that there is something going on over there in that Valley.
Where it truly gets ridiculous though, is when a single teaser by Ev Williams, CEO of Twitter, supposedly warrants all kinds of speculation in the blogosphere. There may be something great upon the horizon, who knows. Let’s all just wait for it to happen and take care about our signal vs. noise ratio, agreed? Thanks.
P.S.: And let’s not forget about that 1,000,000 follower frenzy between CNN and Ashton Kutcher.
Just get it over with. In a month from now, nobody is going to care.
The new possibility of connecting with people and getting your voice heard will still be there. Which is what counts.
